M7.8:topic for literature review
A topic of interest for my literature review that I have been thinking about is focusing on the uprising of megacities due to urbanization and how that have an impact on the availability and safety of food and water. According to the United Nations, in 2014 there is 54% of the world's population living in major cities, and by 2050 it will be 66%, which is an alarming number. The increase in people moving into the city would mean that there will be more demand for food and drinkable water, but our plant is lacking in the supply, not being able to meet the demands, and what repercussion it may have on our environment and health.
Possible agencies that can give some insight into this topic would be US census, United Nations, World Health Organization, EPA, NIH, and the EU World Cities Project.

That sounds very interesting! It is very important to evaluate the effects of environment and human health in megacities. Especially with countries becoming more urbanized and less agricultural, it would be important to learn the effects and hopefully change our habits before it is too late and we run out of water as well as food.
ReplyDeleteI think megacities and future cities are so interesting! After learning about it in my global health policy class, it really intrigued me in creating efforts to live in places that create innovation. Those agencies would definitely be able to provide some inside. I would suggest looking up "smart" or "future" cities and see what you get from that.
