M7.7:Federal agency

The federal agency that I have chosen to explore is the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)under the United States Department of Agriculture. From what we have been learning so far, we know that the EPA is responsible for monitoring and implementing regulation and policies involving animal and plants, for example the disappearance of the bees. But there is actually an agency that is sorely dedicated to animal and plant health. The APHIS is involved in protecting and promoting agricultural health in the US by regulating genetically modified organisms, defend against pest and diseases, and carry out wildlife damage management, such as if there was to be an avian flu outbreak, the APHIS have emergency protocols to get it under control. I think this agency is absolutely much needed because agriculture, food and natural resources is very important to our survival, if we don't do anything to promote and protect what we have now, we will suffer the consequences in the future.

  1. I had no idea the APHIS existed. It is really nice to learn that there is a specific agency focused on plants and animals. I think you are right, natural resources are essential for our survival, so it is crucial for this agency to exist. Of course, we humans aren't the only ones living on the planet, so we need to be considerate of other plants and animals living among us as well.

  2. This is so awesome! This is probably how bees and other plants are found to go into extinction. They must be the ones who prevent this from happening or find the root issue of the problems such as pesticides being used on plants and other agriculture.
