M10.5 an occupational safety and health organization
The agency that I have picked to is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration(OSHA). The program that I have decided to look into the inspection guidance for in patient healthcare settings which is sponsored by OSHA and the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. This program establishes rules, regulations and guidelines for inspection of hospitals nursing homes and residential care homes. The focus is on:
- Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) relating to patient or resident handling,
- Workplace violence (WPV),
- Bloodborne pathogens (BBP),
- Tuberculosis (TB), and
- Slips, trips and falls (STFs).
- Exposure to multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs), such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
- Exposures to hazardous chemicals, such as sanitizers, disinfectants, anesthetic gases, and hazardous drugs.
Other than conducting inspections of in patient facilities, this program also have outreach and trainings to address how to prevent worker injuries, assess workplace safer needs and enhance safe patient handling. This program greatly applies to me as I am planning on working in a hospital setting therefore understanding about exposures to hazardous materials,multi-drug resistant organisms and blood borne pathogens, how to handle workplace violence and any injuries die to slips, trips and falls are very important. I am glad there is regulations and inspections in place to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
This is really interesting, Feng. I have always wondered what some of the programs OSHA because I occasionally hear about them on TV, but I never really looked into it. It seems as though they are very versatile in the workplace with is incredibly important. Though, it makes sense because there are so many different industries and businesses out there.
ReplyDeleteI am so interested to here that there is an inspection guide for patient healthcare setting. It is particularly important for there to be a program for the healthcare workers that are there on a 24/7 basis.
