It was pretty scary reading about the heath effects due to exposures to urea formaldehyde and bleach especially since these two chemicals can be found in our surrounding. When exposed to urea formaldehyde it may cause cancer such as leukemia, upper respiratory and airway irritation and affect women menstrual cycle and reproduction, such as spontaneous abortion and low birthweight in offspring. Bleach can cause skin irritation, burns, in large exposures it can cause anorexia, cardiac or respiratory arrest.
Feng,
ReplyDeleteI thought it was so interesting the toxicity these two chemical exposures can bring! I had no idea that urea formaldehyde could cause spontaneous abortion and affect a women's menstrual cycle. I wonder how radon can be identified in a spontaneous abortion event. After working at an OB/GYN I know that physicians don't test for radon exposure during such health events.
I agree, it really is scary reading about all these health effects being caused by toxic chemicals. It is amazing that they are still allowed in the everyday products we use. It makes me just want to sit in the corner and not do anything! lol. Or it makes me want to fight against all these big companies putting toxic chemicals in our products! As you can see, I have not decided how I feel yet.
